We work with a range of local authority, charitable and private care providers. Here is what they think of our services:
Gemma, Team Manager
The Digital Life Story Work training sessions delivered to our team prompted very useful discussions and thinking about digital safety and resilience in our work with young people. The sessions were rooted in child development theories around adolescence, which was a helpful context for finding ways to overcome the challenges around engaging older children in direct work such as this. Simon introduced a range of tools and approaches for this type of intervention within the sessions (such as video, ‘podwalk’, use of internet mapping, editing, etc) and plenty of opportunity to practice using these approaches and reflect on the challenges and benefits of their use with young people.
Graham, Social Worker
Using smartphones, tablets, etc in this work is a brilliant idea. The training session gave me and my team step-by-step instructions for a range of really useful projects. Simon’s approach and professionalism was 5 star.
Julia, Learning & Development Manager
While most short courses focus on techniques and materials to use with younger children, this workshop was an essential part of any truly comprehensive Life Story Work programme. Dr Simon Hammond’s knowledge-based, down to earth approach engaged our group of foster carers and social workers from the start. The balance was great. Just the right amount of theory, just the right amount of research-based factors and heartfelt anecdotes. Then iPads, phones and laptops out. Soon we were on Google Earth practicing how to respond to a range of possible emerging issues as we go on a ‘Virtual Podwalk’ down local streets or journeys to the other side of the world with a young person re-tracing their steps to times and places gone-by. Simon took the time to discuss and plan how his session would best meet our learning and development needs.
Tim, Residential Home Manager
From planning the session, through to the end, I felt like the needs of my staff team were listened to and reacted to, enabling all to get something from the day. On the day itself the sessions were fun, interactive and accessible. Dr Hammond delivered the very serious need to communicate effectively with young people about their past, present and future in a comprehensive and informative manner. He managed to engage those who don’t really “get” technology and those who love it at the same time. Personally, I really liked the ‘Podwalk’ idea that features in his book. This is something I will definitely encourage my staff to use moving forward.
Alison, UK Children’s Charity Chief Executive
Simon’s knowledge and experience of how powerful digital stories can affect people's lives. His skills, experience and passion for young people was evident when delivering on our project. Because of the requirements of our project, he worked directly with the young people and in doing so, Simon’s engagement methods helped put them at ease and brought out the best in them. Both in formal settings and during down time, his regard for young people and their individual needs was excellent.
Andrea, Supervising Social Worker
A very refreshing course. I like the idea of using technology to do life story-work, as often the older children I work with are harder to engage. The course made the research and theory accessible and helped reinforce the importance of working in this way with practical examples. Thank you.
Mohamed, Foster Carer
Outstanding delivery. Clear and informative, I would definitely recommend this to others working with looked-after young people.
Jessica, Social Worker
What a brilliant concept, course and delivery. Very interactive and informative. Something I will embed in my work moving forward. Thank you!
Helen, Residential Worker
Superb course – the BEST I have ever taken part in. Great to be given lots of practical ideas and tips from real life examples.
Cheryl, Foster Carer
Thank you for delivering an excellent programme. Both days were run extremely well, relevant
